How to Have a DIY Spa Day on Your Vacay

Mom with her daughters making clay face mask. Mother with children doing beauty treatment together. Morning skin care routine.

These days, many of us are looking for ways to de-stress and unwind by indulging in a little self-care. One way to do that is by treating yourself to a rejuvenating spa day.

We’ll show you how to bring the spa right to the comfort of your resort accommodations for a completely relaxing—and safe—spa day.

Step 1: Prep

Make your DIY spa treatments ahead of time. Check your pantry for any ingredients you may already have to easily whip up all you need for your day of pampering.

Read on for facial, scrub, and bath recipes:

Orange and Green Tea Facial

Rejuvenate tired skin with this exfoliating and hydrating facial that’s filled with anti-oxidants and requires minimal ingredients and effort to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • Brown sugar
  • Green tea

Directions

Brew a cup of green tea and set aside, allowing it to cool completely. Cut an orange in half and sprinkle with brown sugar. Rub contents onto your face, neck, and chest and keep on for 20-30 minutes. Use the cooled green tea to rinse and reveal smooth, radiant skin!

Oatmeal Face Mask

After little too much fun in the sun, oatmeal is a calming ingredient that also acts as a gentle exfoliator to soothe and restore irritated skin.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp raw oats
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/3 banana

Directions

Mash the banana into a paste in a small bowl. Add the oats and honey and mix. Massage mixture onto the skin. Leave mask on for one hour, then rinse with warm water, pat dry, and apply moisturizer.

Coffee Yogurt Eye Mask

Drinking your coffee isn’t the only way to wake up in the morning—applying it as an eye mask helps brighten puffy eyes.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp coffee grounds
  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp Greek yogurt
  • Cucumber slices

Directions

Mix ingredients together in a small bowl and apply under eyes. Leave on for 20 minutes then use a warm, damp towel to gently remove. Finish by placing cucumber slices on your eyes for 10 minutes then apply moisturizer.

 Lavender Foot Soak

Replenish tired feet after being on them all day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Epsom salts
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 5 drops of lavender essential oil (other options: peppermint or orange)

Directions

Combine all ingredients then pour mixture into warm water then soak sore feet for at least 20 minutes.

Brown Sugar Scrub

Use this easy-to-make (and hard not to eat!) body scrub to exfoliate and reveal smoother, more hydrated skin.

 Ingredients

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup softened coconut oil
  • Optional: vanilla extract, essential oils

 Directions

Whip sugar, coconut oil, and any extra additions together until the mixture is a creamy texture. Rub onto skin and leave on for 30 minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

Tea & Epsom Bath Salts

After a long day of site seeing, relax sore muscles with Epsom salts infused with calming teas or essential oils.

 Ingredients

  • 2 cups Epsom salt
  • 1/3 cup jojoba oil
  • 1/2 cup body wash
  • 1 tbsp peppermint tea (or 8 drops essential oil)
  • 1 tbsp chamomile tea (or 8 drops essential oil)

Directions

Mix the Epsom salt and tea leaves (or essential oils). Add body wash to mixture until evenly distributed. Slowly stir in jojoba oil until thoroughly mixed. Pour desired amount into bath.

Step 2: Set the atmosphere.

Create a spa-like feel by breaking out the plush bathrobes, lighting your favorite candles, and turning on relaxing music. Put out a few snacks along with herbal teas or champagne.

Step 3: Bliss out and enjoy.
